A lumped parameter thermal model is described which produce steady state temperature rise with in an electrical machine of the TEFC design. The thermal resistance calculation is emphasized in the work. Thermal network model is developed and the resulting algebraic equation solved by Gauss-Seidel method, in order to determine the thermal behavior of the machine under steady state condition. MATLAB programming are developed and used to solve the steady state temperature rise and predict the future temperature of the induction machine at different load. Experiments were performed on a 3.5 H.P.
capacitor run single-phase induction motor. The graphs are plotted against temperature rise vs. per unit load for different node of the proposed thermal network.
